waiting for a better day

Posted in Health at 11:12 am by Paloma Cruz

My boss asked me if I was okay this morning. I guess my general lack of energy has made an impression.

It’s been a tough month.

I need some time off to regroup and catch my breath. Maybe after that I can come back to my professional life with energy and enthusiasm. The way I feel right now is not productive.

Caffeine is not enough. Listlessness is not solved by caffeine.

I know myself. I just need some “me” time to get back into the groove of things.

I’m sure that in a few days I’ll be back to normal.

My two favorite daily podcasts:

I play these on my computer throughout the day. They’ve been very helpful and incredibly informative.

working with a headache

Posted in Health at 12:18 pm by Paloma Cruz

My doctor put me on new medication, which is supposed to help take care of my migraines. Today I have a blinding headache that has all the symptoms of becoming a migraine. I guess the meds aren’t working.

I’ve turned off the lights in the office (the only thing on is this computer), which also took care of the humming coming off the overheads.

I hope I feel better. Otherwise I need to go home, take something heavy duty and pull the covers over me.

back ache

Posted in Health at 9:22 am by Paloma Cruz

I had a doctor’s appointment this morning, a follow-up with my chiropractor from last week. Last week I was still in some pain, but the week before and that weekend I was in severe pain.

I forget, sometimes, how much it can hurt, since it doesn’t normally get that bad.

Today is a normal day for me, some discomfort and tight muscles, but that’s it.

It’s good to have a normal day.

Service Engine Soon

Posted in Finances at 1:33 am by Paloma Cruz

No sooner did I write about everything being okay than my car’s “Service Engine Soon” light came on, and the motor is making a funny noise.

This last time was the fourth instance of my car needing major repairs this year. I console myself that it didn’t need anything but regular maintenance and new tires in the two years prior to that, but it’s a small consolation.

When is it time to start thinking about a better car?

my car broke down and it’s all good

Posted in Finances at 3:39 pm by Paloma Cruz

I got a new radiator, water pump and all the extras that go with it, including towing fees and labor. I am $1,200 poorer, which I paid in cash. I was inconvenienced for a weekend.

So why is it all good? I had the money. I didn’t need to use a credit card. I didn’t need to borrow money. I didn’t need to send in payments late or go hungry or wipe out my savings.

I had the money.

I’ve spent the last year trying to build up my rainy day fund. It hasn’t been fun. It’s been slow, steady work. But I can see that it’s worth it. And, in the end, that’s the best incentive of all.
